When I left school my father suggested having my voice trained or my eyes trained.

It was a difficult decision as I had always had a wish to sing Mimi’s song from La Boheme, to the far horizon.

Bury Art School, my new Bohemia, as a full-time student in the 1950’s was where we worked hard and were introduced to the real World of Art. Mr Lowry would stroll into the Life Room to talk to the Life Master, Mr. John Bold who was an old colleague of his together with the principal, Mr. Warburton.

I also met Rod Hamer, my husband, at Bury Art School.
